Kazakhstan: Freedom of Religion and Belief – Joint Report to the UPR 20th session

The World Evangelical Alliance (WEA), jointly with Open Doors and the International Institute for Religious Freedom (IIRF), submitted a report on religious freedom issues in the Republic of Kazakhstan, to the 20th session of the Universal Periodic Review. The joint submission addressed the new Religion Law that imposes a complex registration system, bans unregistered religious activity, imposes compulsory religious censorship and requires both central and local government approval to build or open new places of worship, beyond regulations for normal buildings. The report also adressed freedom of expression and to share one’s beliefs.
