The World Evangelical Alliance, with its initiative World Freedom Network (WFN), and the Salvation Army, jointly urged States to extend full protections and fair wages to incarcerated workers. The joint statement highlighted the need for international scrutiny to ensure that the human rights of incarcerated individuals, including those who have not yet received a conviction, are protected and labour exploitation is eliminated.
The oral statement was made at the Human Rights Council 57th session, during the Interactive dialogue with the Special Rapporteur on contemporary forms of slavery, including its causes and consequences, on September 12, 2024.
