WEA calls on States to guarantee the prohibition of coercion against people who decide to change from one religion to another

The World Evangelical Alliance urged the UN Human Rights Council to call for the implementation of the recommendations made in the latest report by the UN Special Rapporteur on freedom of religion or belief, and to guarantee the absolute prohibition of coercion against people who decide to change from one religion to another. The Special Rapporteur’s report addressed freedom of religion or belief and the prohibition of torture and other cruel, inhuman or degrading treatment or punishment.

The oral statement was made at the Human Rights Council 58th session, during the Interactive dialogue with the Special Rapporteur on freedom of religion or belief, on 4-5 March 2025.
