The World Evangelical Alliance, representing its national member, the Swedish Evangelical Alliance (SEA), urged Sweden to respect parents’ right to educate their children according to their religious tradition, to withdraw its proposed ban on faith-based private schools, and to allow public funding for religious associations that contribute to the public good without discrimination or interference with their religious beliefs and doctrines. The WEA also encouraged Sweden to take stronger steps to protect asylum seekers’ rights to leave their current religion or convert to another.
The oral statement was made at the Human Rights Council 60th session, during the adoption of the Universal Periodic Review (UPR) outcome of Sweden, on 26 September 2025.
