WEA and Open Doors urge the Human Rights Council to ensure sufficient resources for the Commission of Inquiry on human rights in the Democratic Republic of the Congo

The World Evangelical Alliance, on behalf of its partner -Open Doors International- urged the UN Human Rights Council to prioritize the work of the Independent Commission of Inquiry on the Human Rights Situation in the South and North Kivu Provinces of the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), and to ensure the Commission is adequately staffed, clearly mandated, and enabled to conduct a visit to the region to assess the situation firsthand.

The statement further emphasized the importance of addressing violations of the right to freedom of religion or belief, including the targeting of Christians and other religious communities.

The oral statement was made at the Human Rights Council 61st session, during the Enhanced interactive dialogue on the oral update by the High Commissioner on the situation of human rights in the DRC, on 26 March 2026.
