WEA urges all States to protect religious leaders defending human rights

The World Evangelical Alliance urged all States to renew their commitment to human rights and to protect religious leaders and faith actors as vital contributors to resilient communities. The statement stressed that more than 50 Christian leaders in Colombia have been killed, detained, or forcibly disappeared by illegal armed groups in the past two years for defending human rights.

The oral statement was made at the Human Rights Council 61st session, during the General debate on the High Commissioner’s oral updates and reports, on March 2, 2026.
