WEA urges the High Commissioner for Human Rights to press Sri Lanka to address human rights abuses

The World Evangelical Alliance urged the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights to press the government of Sri Lanka to take immediate steps to address persistent violations of freedom of religion or belief and other human rights. In its statement, the WEA also expressed being encouraged to see progress toward a more inclusive political discourse and commitment by the new Government to address these abuses.

The oral statement was made at the Human Rights Council 60th session, during the General debate on the oral update by the High Commissioner for Human Rights, on September 10, 2025.
