On 5 April 2024, the World Evangelical Alliance (WEA), the European Evangelical Alliance (EEA), and the Portuguese Evangelical Alliance (AEP) submitted a joint report to the Human Rights Council ahead of the Universal Periodic Review (UPR) of Portugal scheduled for November 2024 during the UPR 47th session.
Our joint submission reported on the right to freedom of religion or belief in Portugal, addressing religious education in public schools, freedom of expression in public space, the societal role of Evangelical communities, equal and fair access to State media and chaplaincies, and the criminalization of religious perspectives on gender self-determination.
