Honduras: Freedom of Religion and Indigenous Peoples – Report to the UPR 50th Session

On 7 April 2025, the Observatory of Religious Freedom in Latin America (OLIRE), the International Institute for Religious Freedom (IIRF), and the World Evangelical Alliance (WEA) submitted a joint report to the Human Rights Council ahead of the Universal Periodic Review (UPR) of Honduras scheduled for November 2025 during the UPR 50th session.

Our joint submission reported on the situation of freedom of religion or belief (FoRB) and the rights of indigenous peoples in Honduras, particularly on challenges in exercising their religious and spiritual traditions due to land dispossession, environmental degradation, and lack of adequate legal enforcement. The Report further exposes the intimidation and violence religious leaders face when they advocate for indigenous rights and defend their cultural and spiritual heritage.
