WEA and Anglican Communion urge Eritrea to immediately release prisoners detained for their religious beliefs

The World Evangelical Alliance and the Anglican Consultative Council urged the government of Eritrea to allow religious communities to register in accordance with the law, to immediately release the prisoners currently detained for their religious beliefs and practices and to put an end to detention on the basis of religion.

The joint oral statement was made at the Human Rights Council 57th session, during the adoption of the Universal Periodic Review (UPR) outcome of Eritrea, on 1 October 2024.
