WEA urges Yemen to repeal apostasy laws and enshrine in legislation the right to freedom of religion or belief

The World Evangelical Alliance urged the government of Yemen to repeal apostasy laws and enshrine in legislation the right to freedom of religion or belief, and to integrate the protection of religious minorities and the right to freedom of religion in political settlements and peace agreements. The WEA also called on the government to acknowledge the challenges Yemeni Christians face and respect their rights as integral members of Yemeni society.

The oral statement was made at the Human Rights Council 57th session, during the adoption of the Universal Periodic Review (UPR) outcome of Yemen, on 30 September 2024.
