At the Human Rights Council 46th Session, during the adoption of Maldives’ report by the Universal Periodic Review (UPR) Working Group, the WEA stressed the importance of respecting the right to Freedom of Religion or Belief and called on the government of Maldives to withdraw its reservation to Article 18 of the ICCPR, and to ensure the respect for the right to have or adopt a religion or belief of one’s choice. We reiterated our appeal to the government to ensure the freedom to manifest one’s religion or belief for all.
